Actor Vidya Balan has already created a stir with her seemingly bizarre fashion sense in the promos of her forthcoming film, Ghanchakkar. But director Rajkumar Gupta is undeterred with the criticism from the fashion pundits.

“Vidya plays the role of a bindaas Punjabi housewife, who loves to cook and dress up. She has dressed up appropriately as per her character, as the character will justify the dressing style and vice versa,” says Gupta.
Also starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead, the movie that hits the screens on June 28, was also supposed to have actor Sanjay Dutt in a cameo. However, Dutt’s special appearance has been reportedly called off, as he has was recently convicted in the 1993 Bombay blasts case.
We ask if Dutt will be replaced, but Gupta evades the query with a diplomatic answer: “He was supposed to play himself in the movie... nobody can replace him and there are serious issues in front of him right now rather than acting in movies,” says the filmmaker. Talking further about the movie, Gupta says he’s excited about trying his hand at a new genre with Ghanchakkar after making critically acclaimed films such as Aamir (2008) and No One Killed Jessica (2011).
“As a director, I try to explore different genres and spaces that no one has explored before. It was a conscious effort to do something dissimilar from my previous works,” he says.
