What started as an independent comedy show in 2010 with 200 people has now grown into a full-fledged awards night over the past two years. This year, comic group East India Comedy’s stand-up comedians Sahil Shah, Sorabh Pant, Kunal Rao and Sapan Verma will be hosting the Ghanta Awards.
“We have seen some terrible movies last year and the best way to repress those memories is to make fun of them. This is the first time celebrities may pay us to make sure the award is given to somebody else,” jokes Shah.
The nominations of the Indian version of the Razzies have been shortlisted by a jury of established film critics, including Rajeev Masand, Sahil Rizwan, Karan Anshuman and Sudhish Kamath.
The awards are given under a variety of popular categories such as Worst Film, Worst Actor, Worst Actress, Worst Song, Worst Director and Worst Rip Off. The previous edition of the mock awards even saw actor Sonam Kapoor sportingly turning up to accept the Worst Actress title.
“We’re also planning some ridiculous acceptance speeches since 90 per cent of Bollywood is not going to come and accept the award. Sonam was awesome to pop in last year,” says Sorabh Pant. The winners will be decided by the public on the basis on an online poll. The event will be held on Februrary 15.
