We don’t endorse the Rs. 100 crore club: Talaash makers

Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar, which released on November 13 have had a long run of over two weeks before Talaash hits the screens today. But it will soon have competition from Akshay Kumar’s Khiladi 786 that hits the screens next week.

The producers of Talaash — Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar — however, are not bothered. “I think that there are enough screens for every film in today's time. These things don't matter,” said Ritesh, adding that crossing the Rs. 100 crore mark doesn’t ensure a film’s worth. “I don’t think people go to watch a film because it has earned Rs. 100 crore or something like that. We don’t endorse it,” he said, on their visit to HT House on Tuesday.

Farhan, too, said, “This is a very dangerous mindset. It restricts the film to numbers and doesn’t talk about the socio-political impact the film might have."

Talaash was shot at real locations such as at Kamathipura in Mumbai, which is the third largest red light area in Asia. Asked if seeking permission to shoot there was a hurdle, Farhan said, “No. The locals were helpful. You can’t shoot anywhere without the cooperation of people. We stayed there peacefully, for about a week with the entire crew.”

On being asked why Aamir was promoting the film on TV shows, Farhan said, “There are advance bookings for Aamir. He is promoting a certain kind of film. The audience knows that. All said and done when Aamir goes to a CID (TV show), it is his character who goes there and not the actor, to reach out to the target audience. That is a smarter thing to do.” Ritesh added, “Stars help in getting audience and numbers for a film but the script decides the fate of the film.”
