Why John Abraham refused to go shirtless for Shootout at Wadala

Actor John Abraham says his upcoming movie, Shootout at Wadala, will be a “career defining film.”
The makers of director Sanjay Gupta’s much talked-about film, Shootout At Wadala, had organised a grand audience-engaging event at a mall in the central suburbs of the city last evening.
The film is based on the shootout of underworld don Manya Surve (played by John Abraham) and the makers
modelled the event on the real-life incidents that occurred then, such as a live shootout and blowing up of cars in front of the mall.
An insider reveals that the makers wanted John to appear in his on-screen avatar, so the actor was asked to appear shirtless. John declined to do so. “John might have been worried that the crowds will get out of control if he appeared without a shirt,” says the source.
However, his refusal was defeating the purpose of organising such an expensive real-looking event that the makers had planned. Director Sanjay Gupta was sure that the event would fall flat if John turned up in regular clothes. “Sanjay had to work hard to convince John to go shirtless to maintain the theme,” says the source.
When contacted, Sanjay confirms the news, saying, “Initially, John had reservations about making an entry without his shirt for the launch, but having explained the concept and the idea behind his entry to him, he was kicked about the suggestion,” says Sanjay.
