Funerals are a sad and gloomy affair, but in a first-of-its kind moment, the city was witness to a happy funeral on Thursday evening.

A group of more than 200 people dressed in funky outfits and headgear and danced on the streets as they carried a coffin symbolising misogyny to its burial point.

Organised by Lets Walk Gurgaon and Gurgaon Moms, the symbolic funeral, which took place outside Sahara Mall in Gurgaon, was presided over by a lady priest — stand-up comedian Vasu Primlani — who did the last rites for patriarchy amid slogans such as ‘Patriachy Svaha, Women Equality Wah Wah’. “Patriarchy must die, so we created a symbolic funeral of old ideas complete with a coffin,” said Anushree Mishra, co-organiser.
