It’s a guy thing too!

Looks like guys are ditching those plain pants and adding a dash of quirk to their style. Edgy and bold printed trousers have become the latest rage in men’s fashion globally. Recently, golfer Billy Horschel caused quite a stir at the 2013 US Open when he turned up wearing octopus print pants.

Our fashion forward guys back home have been quick to follow the trend — while actor-director Farhan Akhtar recently rocked grey leaf print pants teamed with a t-shirt and a jacket, actor Shahid Kapoor topped the style charts with his funky green printed pants.

Stylists give the style a big thumbs up. “It’s fun for guys to wear printed pants, or else menswear can be rather boring. But, go for this trend if you have confidence to pull it off,” says stylist Gautam Kalra. Stylist Rishi Raj adds, “Prints have been around, and the interpretations evolve. I look forward to see how this trend develops further.” However, stylists say that one should be careful about not going overboard while sporting this trend. “Tone down your printed pants with solid layers and be careful with the colours you choose. Keep your personality and body type in mind,” suggests Kalra. “Keep everything else understated. Make sure other accessories are not too detailed or distracting,” adds Raj.

Stores in the city are stocking printed pants and flea markets in Sarojini Nagar and Janpath have cheaper versions. “Men’s wardrobe also has trousers in leafy, crow and elephant prints this season,” says Shilpi Dhir of a high-street label.
