Flowy, comfortable, flattering and super sexy — the easy silhouette of a maxi completely ruled the summer sartorially, becoming the go-to garment for the season.
From aztec, tribal and digital prints to monochrome solids, layered cuts, baroque embroidery and floral motifs — there have been a generous amount of options to choose from. Not too clued in with the trend?
Here goes: Maxis are usually full length, A-lined or straight-fitted, and come in plethora of designs — from Angelina Jolie style knee-length slits, backless wonders and sweetheart necklines, to Indianised versions made popular by designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Surily Goel and Malini Ramani.
“Maxis always look good, be it in prints or with embellishments, they’re definitely here to stay,” says designer Sakshee Pradhan. And, from Bong bombshell Bipasha Basu to forever fashionable ladies Malaika Arora Khan and Mehr Rampal — the maxi dress is a quick choice for many A-listers.
“A maxi is a fabulous pick for every and any occasion. But it comes in the realm of resort wear — so if you travel a lot, this is a good choice — be it for a formal event or even for the beach.
Plus, it’s so flattering on all body types,” says designer Anupama Dayal, who showcased a collection this month at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, that also included the easy-silhouetted garment.
If you are not the dressy variety, maxi skirts can make for a hot pick too. These usually start from the waist and cascade down to your feet. Go for semi-sheer and colour-blocked ones.
