For all those people who wish they could have ghar ka khaana delivered to their workplaces, there is good news. A new city-based website, which was launched towards the end of November, does exactly that. Bowlstoyou.com has roped in a network of housewives, who double up as chefs to churn out
home-made salads and other health foods for the city’s working population. As of now, the website — currently focused on serving various salads — delivers only to offices in Phoenix Mills in Lower Parel, Bandra Kurla Complex and Mindspace in Malad. But there are plans to expand.
Customised to taste
“We have received a few queries from people in Nariman Point and are in the process of finalising that deal. Right now, we primarily do salads — Mexican, Italian, Greek and even desi sprouts — that can be customised,” says Pinank Shah, co-founder of bowlstoyou.com.
The 30-year-old, who owns a digital advertising agency called Digi-Cult in Goregaon, developed this idea with his partner, Brijesh Chheda, as a part-time deal. “We realised that there are already many websites that deliver food from city restaurants. That’s when we thought of targeting housewives, who may have some time on their hands to create healthy, home-made salads, because there is a demand for that,” says Shah.
The website links the orders that customers place online to the homemaker-chefs. They prepare the salads and then Shah makes sure the package gets picked up from them and delivered. “For instance, if you want to place an order for a salad for lunch on Monday, you will have to place your order between 11.30 am on Sunday (a day before) and 11.30 am on Monday,” says Shah.
The homemakers, meanwhile, benefit as per their output. “If one chef makes 50 salads in a day, she stands to earn roughly Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 27,000 in a month,” he says. The recruitment process for the chefs, which is in progress, requires those interested to cook some samples to prove their skills. “It started with word-of-mouth publicity, but now we have over 29 queries from people who want to become chefs with us,” says Shah.
