Remember the Tom Cruise-starrer action-packed teaser of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol? At that time, actor Anil Kapoor’s absence had made headlines. For the uninitiated, the Indian actor plays a desi business tycoon, Brij Nath in director Brad Bird’s upcoming biggie, also
featuring Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton.
Later, Kapoor was spotted in the official worldwide theatrical trailer. And now, MI4 makers are making sure that the Slumdog Millionaire (2008) actor gets ample space in the film’s marketing campaigns. Now, he has also been made a part of the film’s new official poster.
“Anil sir was very happy because it came as a surprise to him. The latest creative is their key or main poster that will be used from now on till the release of the film in December,” says a team member involved with Kapoor. MI4, produced by Paramount, releases in India on December 16.
When contacted, Kapoor was understandably happy. “Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to see the poster. It’s a great feeling.” Neither Paramount nor distributors-marketers Viacom 18 are willing to comment, but insiders in the marketing team say Tom was also keen on having Kapoor on the poster, as he is aware of his popularity and stardom amongst the Asians, especially in India.
For some months now, Anil and Tom have been bonding over India and Hindi. The Hollywood star has been showing keen interest in the country and the language. Last week, he tweeted: “We are really looking forward to talk to our friends in India when Mission: Impossible -Ghost Protocol releases. Anil Kapoor rocks MI:4.” Tom lands in India on December 2 to promote MI4 with Kapoor.
Besides featuring in Danny Boyle’s Academy Award-winning film, Kapoor has also acted in the Hollywood TV series 24, alongside Kiefer Sutherland. He will also start shooting for Roger Donaldson’s next biggie, Cities, which stars Clive Owen. The film will be shot in Mumbai from the end of this year.
