His rising stature as a major action star is what compelled actor-filmmaker Sylvester Stallone to offer him a meaty role in the beefcake flick, The Expendables. And now, actor Jason Statham will be seen in the action film, Safe, which releases in India today.
Actor Sylvester Stallone with co-stars Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren with some British soldiers in the background arrive for the British Premiere of their latest film 'The Expendables', in London's Leicester Square.
In this film too, Statham will
be seen battling several bad guys, just like his earlier films. “The truth is they’ve run out of bad people to send my way, so I have to just bust through the world and take on several bad people at the same time. I’m like the James Bond of busting bad guys,” he says. “Safe has all the thrills and spills of an action film. You can root for the good guy, and the bad guys fall in droves. But there was definitely an emotional layer that doesn’t normally appear in many of the films I’ve done. There’s a girl who needs saving, so that gives me a very good reason for what I’m doing. In the end, we end up saving each other,” he adds.
The 44-year-old actor, who shot to fame with films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Crank, The Italian Job, and the Transporter series, will be seen next in The Expendables 2, with iconic action stars like Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li and Chuck Norris. “That film is just one big chunk of meat. Sly was terrific doing what he does best. He amassed a great crowd of actors I don’t think could be amassed again,” says Statham.
