Melissa McCarthy, who earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Bridesmaids, could join the cast of The Hangover 3, according to Variety.

The final chapter of The Hangover trilogy, currently in production, will break with the alcohol-fueled bachelor-party-gone-awry formula to focus on a

road trip undertaken by the group of male friends.

The Todd Phillips-directed movie will star Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham and John Goodman. The road trip will take the rambunctious group to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Tijuana, Mexico.

The Hangover 3 is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2013.
