Now, Irrfan Khan bags a British film

After his recent Hollywood film, Ang Lee-directed Life of Pi, bagged 11 Oscar nominations, Irrfan is set to star in another international film. He has joined hands with director Asif Kapadia for his yet-untitled next. The British filmmaker of Indian descent is most famous for winning the best
documentary BAFTA for Senna in 2010.
Irrfan, presently busy wrapping up his Bollywood projects, says, “I’m doing a film with Asif Kapadia. A book has been sent to me. I’m reading it. I don’t know whether I should disclose the name right now, because then everyone will start talking about it. My role is that of a surgeon.”
All Irrfan tells us about the film is that “it’s like a saga. The film spans Uganda to Norway. It will be a period film.” Besides Senna, Asif has previously made films like The Warrior (2001), The Return (2006) and Far North (2007).
The actor says he does not sign every Hollywood film that comes along. “I don’t do all the films that come my way. Both the industries (Bollywood and Hollywood) are important to me. I can’t shift to Hollywood, as I need to connect with people through Hindi cinema. I only sign up for a challenging role, to rejuvenate myself and work with directors whom I would never get a chance to work with otherwise,” he says.
He also says he was apprehensive about Life of Pi. “The film was tricky and wasn’t a safe story. We had our apprehension as to whether the audience would connect,” says Irrfan.
