The latest trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug shows a few more images from part two of Peter Jackson's trilogy of Lord of the Rings prequels.
Warner Bros. Studios continue to drum up suspense ahead of its much-anticipated release, slated to arrive in US theaters on December 13. The tension mounts in this new 2'30'' clip, the film's official main trailer.
The saga of Bilbo Baggins continues as he finds himself involved in the war between Dwarves, Elves and Men, the three races determined to claim the riches of Erebor, the Lonely Mountain. In the latest installment, the character played by Martin Freeman will come face to face with the terrible dragon Smaug, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. The two actors are already close collaborators, portraying the main characters on the BBC series Sherlock.
The trailer provides a glimpse at the new characters that will be introduced in the second film: Lee Pace and Evangeline Lilly appear in the roles of the Elves Thranduil and Tauriel. Orlando Bloom returns in the role of the Elf Legolas, while Luke Evans plays Bard the Bowman, a Man. Of course, the evil Sauron will return in sequences that tie the story of The Hobbit to that of The Lord of the Rings, all inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novels.
The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord Of The Rings series and it's about the escapades of Frodo's uncle Bilbo Baggins.
