These last few months have been a gamer’s delight with a number of titles unveiled that cater to players across mediums. Here are 10 that raised the bar.

1. FIFA 14
Adding Argentinian, Chilean, Colombian and Brazilian teams to its international club roster, the game also overhauls ball physics, player animations and movement. Featuring 33 leagues, over 600 licensed teams, and more than 16,000 players, the beautiful game by Electronic Arts can be played in 34 authentic stadiums.

2. Grand Theft Auto V
The latest version of the blockbuster video game Grand Theft Auto stoked up a worldwide buying frenzy. Rockstar Games spent five years crafting the title, but were well-rewarded when the game raked in more than a billion dollars in a record-shattering first three days on the streets. Set in a fictional city of Los Santos, the game has legions of fans and critics for gameplay in which triumph depends on acts such as carjacking, gambling and killing.

3. Plants vs Zombies 2
Developed by PopCap Games, this is a free-to-play sequel to the mobile hit, Plants vs Zombies. Originally launched on the Apple App Store in August, it was downloaded nearly 25 million times in two weeks of its release. As part of the plot, zombie-defeater-in-chief Crazy Dave travels in time to places like Ancient Egypt, the Pirate Seas, and the Wild West.

4. Battlefield 4
The beta release, which commenced on October 1, takes place on the Siege of Shanghai level, which features a destructible office block. Upon its fall, the flow of play changes . A three-day head start is given to those who have pre-ordered Battlefield 4, already own the Battlefield 3 Premium Edition, or bought one of the Medal of Honor: Warfighter special editions. Otherwise, the general public can access it on October 4.

5. Just Dance 2014
You could have the moves like Jennifer Lopez, Psy or Rihanna when this dance game gets going. The more than 40-song roster also features Lady Gaga, David Guetta, Chris Brown, 1D and Justin Bieber, among others. Old favourites, including ABBA, The Village People, George Michael and Bob Marley are in too.

6. Transport Tycoon
The classic game that asks players to establish profitable routes over road, rail, air and sea, will now be available on mobiles from October 3. The game was originally released in 1994 by gamer Chris Sawyer and, till date, has fans of the gameplay in which the player acts as an entrepreneur in control of a transport company, competing against rivals to make a profit.

7. Angry Birds Star Wars II
Finnish maker Rovio made a big splash again with this sequel to the Angry Birds-meets-Star Wars original. It is ranked as the most downloaded application from App Stores in several countries. With new birds, powers and even accessories introduced, the time to “join the pork side” of the force is here.

8. Pro Evolution Soccer
Ball movement, physical contact, team and stadium morale, star player likeness, and tactics are this year’s key additions, even as South American soccer teams join the fold along with the AFC Champions League and two South American cup competitions.

9. Modi Run
In this game that “is purely for entertainment and made as a parody of Indian elections”, Narendra Modi runs through multiple states to gather the votes to win the elections and become PM of India.

10. Scribblenauts Unmasked
This puzzle game has an all-star line-up of over 2,000 heroes and villains from the DC Comics universe. The game by 5th Cell features a story in which the protagonist, Maxwell, embarks on an imaginative and comical quest that takes them through Gotham City, Metropolis, Atlantis and other iconic locales from the DC Comics universe.
