Mumbai’s pet lovers are in for a treat. A three-day long show, from April 19 to April 21, will display exotic birds, colourful fish and various breeds of dogs and cats. Titled Zorang Pet Show, the event is being organised by two pet lovers, Babloo Aziz and Sahil Ismail, both of whom have private
bird sanctuaries in Santacruz and Pune respectively.
While Aziz’s bird sanctuary consists of 150 exotic parrots of 38 different species, Ismail’s sanctuary houses 300 rare varieties of birds. The former, who will display some of his birds at the show, is also a member of Sanjeevan, an NGO for the conservation of pet animals.
“We want to create awareness about the importance of animals in our lives. Our aim is encourage people to stop cruelty towards animals and educate them about ways of taking care of animals,” says Aziz.
Educational lectures on pet care will also be presented at the show through audiovisual presentations. Entries are still open for people interested in putting up a stall at the show. The main selection criteria is that the animals have to be rare and exotic. About 1,200 animals are likely to be put on display at this event.
Bollywood actors like Neha Dhupia, Emraan Hashmi, Suniel Shetty, Irrfan, Chunky Pandey, Aftab Shivdasani and Mahima Choudhary will also display their pets at this event.
Talking about his love for animals, Chunky says, “I am a huge pet lover. I own a Yorkshire Terrier and we’ve named him Fudge. I will visit the pet show along with my younger daughter and Fudge.”
