Farhan Akhtar says he feels creatively satisfied with his work in his upcoming film, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Critics and industry pundits are touting it to be one of the outstanding performances of the year, and filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar doesn’t shy away from admitting the effort he has put in for his forthcoming flick, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
Based on the life of celebrated Indian athlete Milkha Singh, the film, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, hits the screens on July 12.
“I’m very excited about this film. It was an amazing experience for me, of course as an actor, and also to play someone as legendary as him. I feel I have contributed adequately to the film... I have done my best. I feel creatively satisfied with the work that I’ve done,” says the 39-year-old, adding, “I believe that on an emotional level, it’ll resonate very strongly with people of this country. I’m very optimistic about it.”
Biopics, however, have had a limited box office run on the box office. But Akhtar is undeterred. “I don’t agree. I think the film should speak for itself. If it’s good, it’ll do well regardless of what genre it is,” says the actor, who was in the Capital last month to perform at the NDTV Indian of the Year awards.
Akhtar, who debuted in Bollywood as a director, helmed Don 2 last. When asked if he’ll direct a third installment of the franchise, he says, “At this point I’m not writing Don 3, so I don’t know when it’ll come out. Shah Rukh and I have spoken about it. It’s an interesting character to take forward. But Shah Rukh also understands that you don’t want to do stuff for the sake of it. We really want to be committed to it.”
