It’s Republic Day and filmmaker Shoojit Sircar is on a patriotic mission. The filmmaker wants to recreate the National Anthem that reflects the thoughts of the youth. So, he is inviting young citizens of the nation to help him create a new version of the National Anthem, to be shown before movie screenings.
The aim of this endeavour is also to give new talent an opportunity to showcase their work and to evoke patriotism. Talking about the initiative, Sircar tells us: “My Nation My Anthem will give filmmakers, musicians and singers an opportunity to render their interpretation of the Anthem.
The shortlisted entries across the three categories will be supervised by an expert panel comprising of me and other experts. The final film of the National Anthem will be showcased at PVR Cinemas before a movie screening.” He further says, “The idea behind the initiative is to engage the citizens and give them a sense of ownership of their proud heritage by helping them create a lively and an engaging video for our Anthem.” Winners will also be rewarded with cash prizes.
So what inspired Sircar to get associated with the initiative? “India has young filmmakers with good ideas, but they lack funding or don’t get good breaks. This initiative is not only an opportunity for the creative community but provides us a chance to guide young talent in our country,” he says.
The timing is perfect for such an initiative when the nation is showing solidarity and jointly protesting against crimes and corruption. “India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25. In times where there is unnecessary discord between communities and regions, this initiative will evoke patriotism towards our country and fellow Indians. I look forward to working on this initiative that embraces the diversity of our country, while bringing people together,” Sircar concludes.
