Did you give up your dream of learning dance or a music instrument in your bid to focus on studies or job? You can now pursue those passions with the help of a new group, World Of Talent, which was started by a group of four diversely skilled youngsters, a month ago.

The idea of the group, which comprises Tripti Verma, Preet Chhatwal, Rahul Bhatt and Vivek Vaid, is to make people rediscover their long-lost talents.

“A lot of professionals in the city have a hidden talent that got sidelined in the humdrum of regular life. A budding musician might have given way to a chartered accountancy, a talented dancer could have ended up as a doctor or a budding artist is perhaps a corporate honcho today. This group helps people rediscover their talents with the help of one to two day-long workshops held on weekends, keeping students and working professionals in mind,” says Vaid, the co-organiser.

The group has had two workshops, one on drumming and another Western-African dance.

“We plan to have workshops on baking, poetry, shayari, guitar, glass-blowing, belly-dancing and more — based on what people demand,” says Verma, 26, a designer by profession and singer and tabla player at heart. Most workshops are priced between R300-R500.

Other than the workshops the members go for heritage walks together, organise baithak to sing qawwalis and savour the dimsums they have made together. “It’s not always about working, it’s important to have fun together to connect and grow as a group,” says Bhatt, 32, a corporate professional and drummer.

The group is organising a bhangra workshop in the Capital on July 13, 14 with folk dancers from Patiala.
