Ghazal singer couple Bhupinder and Mitali Singh will be performing in the city on December 15. After performing at a concert called Do Deewane Shaher Mein in October this year, the duo is taking to the stage again, due to popular demand.
But while the concert retains its title, the main idea will be to celebrate the success of their album, Aksar (that features compositions written by Gulzar), which was released in April this year. “We are already getting mails and letters from fans whose requests remained unattended in the last concert since we did not have the time. We will certainly try to sing the requested songs this time,” says Mitali.
Known for their chemistry on stage and knack of interacting with the audience, Bhupinder and Mitali are celebrating 25 years of singing together. The duo will present some of their unreleased compositions too. “During our last concert, people requested to hear new ghazals. So we will be presenting some compositions that haven’t even been recorded as yet,” says Bhupinder.
Besides their popular compositions like ‘Dil dhoondta hai’, ‘Naam gum jayega’, ‘Shama jalaye rakhna’ and ‘Darwaza khula rakhna’, the highlight of this concert will be numbers from the album. “We will sing some of the ghazals and nazams from Aksar like ‘Neeli neeli ankhiyon’ and ‘Aisi maddham si’. We always feel very emotional when we give voice to Gulzar saab’s lyrics. Be it film songs or his nazams, I feel honoured to have sung them,” says Bhupinder.
The concert will take place on December 15 at the Tejpal Hall, Gowalia Tank, Grant Road from 8 pm onwards.
