Singer-actor Demi Lovato.
Among a panel comprising industry veterans Simon Cowell, LA Reid and Britney Spears, singer Demi Lovato may seem to stick out as the odd one in the latest season of X Factor. But the 20-year-old singer, known for her lead roles in Disney’s Camp Rock film series and her own hit singles Skyscraper
and ‘Give your heart a break’, doesn’t feel out of place in the company of her celebrity co-judges.

Unfazed by comments from critics who think that she’s too young to be on the show, she says, “I think what I bring to the table is a fresh perspective on today’s music and artistes. I kind of represent the younger fans and know what kind of music they’d buy or whose concert they’ll go to. I’m honored to be on the panel, let alone on a TV show, especially having a job in this economy.”

Given the colossal participation that the show draws, the job at hand certainly isn’t easy, according to the singer. “Sometimes it can be tricky because if you don't like someone and you send them home then the audience boos at you. So I had to learn to not take it very personally at first, because earlier I was like, ‘Oh my God! They are booing me. This sucks.’ But then I got used to it and it’s just a lot of fun.”

In fact, the reality show even went as far out as to create a new category based on age, so that Lovato could mentor younger contestants. And her vision of finding an ideal X Factor winner is clear: “It’s not just about...who has the best voice and the best performance.  It’s about making a pop star, and ultimately, signing someone who has what it takes performance-wise and also drive-wise.”

For the contestants, her message is simple. “You have to make a lot of sacrifices. You have to be willing to not get a lot of sleep and to work very, very, very hard.”

X Factor airs every Friday and Saturday at 10 pm on BIG CBS Prime, Love and Spark
