Reewa Rathod always knew that music was her calling. The daughter of established singer-couple Roopkumar and Sunali Rathod will make her stage debut tonight at a concert in the city today. Incidentally, it’s also her 21st birthday. “Music runs in my blood. Being my parents’ daughter, I have a lot of benefits, but there are high expectations too. I have a lot to prove. I want to make my parents proud,” she says.

After graduating from Cambridge University, Reewa has returned to India to pursue music. About her maiden concert, which will feature songs of all genres, she says, “It’ll be a blend of east and west. I’ll play the piano and sing English, Hindi as well as Carnatic ‘bandish’ songs. I’m looking forward to performing in front of my guru, Pt Rajan Mishra.”

While the show will mostly feature her original compositions, Reewa will sing a few covers too. “I’ll sing ‘Kiss from a rose’ by Seal, as well as some songs by Yanni,” she adds. She will be backed by a 16-member ensemble of musicians.

Having already composed some original music, the young singer says she may release an album this year. And what about Bollywood? She says, “I feel it has to come at some point in your life, but it’s not integral for me. My aim is to reach the international platform and make my presence felt globally. My personal style is soul music. I want to create my own sound.”
