The trio (Deepika, Saif and Diana) play close friends onscreen.
The past few months have presented a mixed bag of feelings for singer Kavita Seth. Even as her hit song, ‘Tum hi bandhu’, from Cocktail brought her success and popularity, the singer hadn’t quite recovered from the shock of the sudden loss of her husband earlier this year.
“My life changed
completely after the death of my husband nine months ago. But music gave me the strength to carry on,” says Kavita, who released her Sufi album, Ek Din, recently. She adds, “The album was almost ready when he was alive, only the mixing and mastering was left. I dedicate this album to him. He’d been my mentor and inspiration all my life”
The album, out on Universal, comprises nine tracks written by lyricist Jagadish Prakash. “All the songs are close to my heart. The title song is like my biography in four-and-a-half minutes,” she says, adding, “Poetically, the album is very strong.
The lyrics are profound, yet written in simple language so that everyone can understand.” Concerned about whether the album will click with the youth, Kavita roped in her son to help her.
“I asked my son, who studies in IIT-B to make his friends listen to the songs and give us feedback on which song we should make a video for,” says Kavita, whose song ‘Iktara’ (Wake Up Sid, 2009) rose up popularity charts among the youth. And the response was surprising. “They liked the tracks with Sufi nazms (verses), something that I wasn’t expecting from the youngsters,” she concludes.
