Anyone who’s been to Goa in December will tell you it’s the best time of the year to go. In the run up to New Year, the parties are getting bigger. For music festival junkies, there are big and small events to pick from, not to mention the many standalone gigs that will be held there between Christmas and New Year.

Here’s a lowdown on what to watch out for:
Sunburn
In its sixth year, India’s biggest electronic dance music (EDM) festival is once again bringing down the biggest international DJs. Besides house, techno and trance, niche genres such as dubstep, tribal-techno and trip-hop also find place in the lineup that also includes many local artists. “Sunburn is like a village gathering, where we share music that makes us happy,” says festival curator Nikhil Chinapa.

Acts to catch: Paul Van Dyk, Fedde Le Grand, Sander Van Doorn, Richard Durand, among others.
When: December 27-29
Where: Candolim Beach, North Goa
Details: Check out www.sunburn.in

Live From The Console (LFTC)
The niche monthly gigs at Mumbai’s Mehboob Studio now culminate in a two-day fest on the sands. The multi-genre lineup includes bands that have performed at the Mumbai series, as well as international heavyweights such as Julian Marley. Besides the shows, attendees at LFTC can look forward to Goa-themed cocktails, dolphin-spotting and sunset boat cruises at the event.

Acts to catch: Awolnation, The Colour Compound, Nikhil D’Souza, Dub Mafia
When: December 29-30
Where: The Byke Old Anchor Hotel, Cavelossim Beach, South Goa

Windsong festival
Venturing outside their domain of EDM, the organisers of Sunburn, Percept Ltd, will host the debut edition of this fest during Christmas. The two-day event featuring two stages will have performances by artists such as Lucky Ali, Rabbi and Strings. We’d like to see some Goan bands that perform original music in the lineup as well.

Acts to catch: Rabbi, Lucky Ali, Strings and Ankur Tewari
When: December 24-25
Where: GTDC Grounds, Baga Beach, North Goa
Details: Check www.bookmyshow.com

Barn Fest
Another music offering this Christmas, Barn Fest, by Taj Vivanta, returns with a second edition. Held in the five-star resort’s grassy grounds by the sea, this small, two-day festival will feature five acts.

Acts to catch: Overdrive Trio, Vasuda, Hipnotribe, Sax on Toast and Whirling Kalapas
When: December 25 and 26
Where: Vivanta by Taj, Fort Aguada, North Goa
Details: Call 6601 1825

Weezomania
Mainstream music fans partying in Goa won’t be disappointed. Weezomania, a three-day festival, debuts this year, and has a lot to choose from — Honey Singh, DJ Aqeel and Mafia Mundeer, among others. Designed for holiday goers looking for an additional source of entertainment, it also offers casino services and beach games.

Acts to catch: Honey Singh, DJ Aqeel, DJ Happy, Mafia Mundeer
When: December 14-16
Where: The Zuri White Sands, Resort, Varca Beach, South Goa
