watering hole that had commercial written all over it to a discreet indie music hub. On April 25, city acts Split, The Riot Peddlers and Punk On Toast will take to the stage here. “We are open to hosting gigs where anyone, from a beat-boxer to a fusion guitarist, can play,” says Gaurav Dabrai, director, Kino 108.

The eatery has everything going for it — ambience, food and good acoustics — to make it a great place for hosting performances. The venue introduced a special weekly night, Acoustic Tuesdays, recently, which has seen performances by city artistes like Vasuda Sharma, Winit Tikoo and Nikhil D’Souza, among others. “We introduced these gigs keeping in mind that Andheri doesn’t really have a place that hosts such performances, and people have to go to Bandra or Lower Parel to attend gigs. The response has been amazing,” says Tanu Narang, owner, The Little Door. The gig features three acts — an opening performance by an upcoming artiste, followed by an acoustic act and then a band. On April 23, Ashwin & Friends will feature among other acts.
What: Acoustic Tuesdays (Weekly)

An acoustic solo act complements the warm, cosy environment at this restaurant. Singer-songwriter Vernon Noronha, who performed at the first edition of the weekly Unplugged Thursdays at this Powai joint, says that although the place has all the potential to make a great venue, its location is both a pro and a con. “A lot of people shy away from coming all the way to Powai,” he says.
What: Unplugged Thursdays (Weekly)
Where: G3 Transocean, Hiranandani Business Park, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai.
Smaaash, Lower Parel
Offering ridiculously tempting deals on its special EDM gig nights, this gaming centre / eatery has got the formula right to ensure that the place is packed with the right mix of people who love sports, food and music (or at least two of those three). The inaugural Smash Up! Night saw acts such as Ez Riser, DJ Amul and Algorhythm. The second series featured Vachan Chinnappa, Ox7gen and Sickflip spinning to the party people. Looks like things will only get better for the place in the weeks to come.
What: Regular EDM nights
Where: City Studio, Gate 4, Oasis Complex, Next to Kamala Mills Compound, Pandurang Budhkar Marg, Lower Parel
Every Wednesday, this European eatery hosts varied acts, which have helped it position itself in this unique space. “We host all kinds of acts, from stand-up comedy to rock band performances and karaoke nights,” says Ritik Bhasin, partner, Cheval. Last week, singer-songwriter Leon De Souza and his band performed to a packed house with a cheering crowd “We played contemporary R&B and hip-hop numbers in our own arrangements. While the general vibe was very laidback, the beat-boxing added a sense of fullness. The crowd loved it,” he says. Next week, Rachel And The Plutonians will perform here.
