Flowery: Shankar Mahadevan attends the music release of Chandni Chowk to China.
It’s not new for celebrity kids to follow their fathers’ footprints. The newest entrant to the list is Shankar Mahadevan’s 11-year-old son, Shivam, who will make his singing debut in Nikhil Advani’s animation film, Delhi Safari.

Ask Shankar, who has composed the music for the film, about
this and he says, “Shivam has sung parts of the title song. We needed a kid’s voice and his suited it well. He was nine years old at the time.” What was Shivam’s reaction when he was asked to sing? Shankar says, “He was quite thrilled about it. But more than the singing bit, he was excited about it being in an animated film.” Shankar adds, “It’s good that he’s doing this, but I don’t want him to get carried away. He has a good sense of music, and right now, he should focus on learning it further.” Having said this, Shankar does not rule out the possibility of Shivam doing more mainstream singing in the future.

Incidentally, Shivam’s elder brother, 19-year-old Siddharth, has also sung some of the back-up vocals for a few songs in the movie.
