It’s hard to believe Vinesh Nair, the frontman of hard rock outfit Vin Sinners, when he tells you that he almost gave up music. The tall, tattooed man whose personality screams rock star, admits that after having been there, done that during India’s thriving music scene in the early ’90s, he decided to move on. He shifted base to Dubai and climbed up the rungs to become the global marketing head of an MNC.

“I used to write music and lyrics, but all of that just ended around 1994. After 14 years, in 2008, I chanced upon my old material, began writing fresh stuff and decided to produce a song. I was introduced to a producer and we developed one track and I soon found myself in the depths of a full-fledged rock music album,” says Nair. In the process, he ganged up with five other musicians — four NRIs and one Filipino — to form the band. They have been through many line-up changes through the years. The current members are Vin Nair (vocals), Aldo Rock (guitar), JB (rhythm guitars), Joe D’mon (bass guitars), Cmythonika (keyboards), The Skinner (drums).

After playing at major shows across the Middle East, the band members couldn’t be happier to return to India for their first tour here. “I keep coming to India for business, but this will be the first time that the entire band will travel and stay together. It will be like being in a live-in relationship with five other men for the next 10 days,” says Nair.

Although their sound is hard rock to the core, tonight they will perform an acoustic gig at The Bandra Base. “We focus on being melodic and keeping the tunes catchy and that works in an acoustic performance,” Nair says. But their Chennai shows this Friday and Saturday will see them on their in their true rock star avatars. “It’s going to be a full blast concert in front of a large audience,” he says.

Vin Sinners has one album, titled An Element Of Surprise, with 11 tracks to their credit. The album included a tribute song titled ‘Barack Hussein Obama Part 1’. However, it’s the second one that might really surprise their fans. “It will be a double CD album with over 20 songs,” says Nair.
