The name Third Eye Blind (TEB) by itself must come as a ‘blast-from-the-past’ for music lovers in the city. Unless you are a hardcore fan who has kept track of their more recent albums — Red Star, an EP (2008) and Ursa Major (2009) — most will remember TEB as the band behind catchy alt-rock singles that were popular about 10 years ago, such as Semi-charmed life, Never let you go and Deep inside of you.

GuitarFans can now enjoy a live performance of the band in the city this Friday. The alternative rock band from San Francisco are on their first tour to India as part of the Bacardi Go-Together Mix and will play in Mumbai after having performed in Bengakuru and Hyderabad.

“We’ve been receiving offers to perform in India for the past two years,” says drummer Brad Hargreaves. “However, we always happened to be booked elsewhere. We’re excited that this is finally happening.”

Around since 1993, in nearly two decades the band has only released three albums and one EP. This could be attributd to their constant line-up changes and internal controversies — founding member and guitarist Kevin Cadogan was fired from the band under controversial circumstances in 2000, as was their subsequent guitarist Tommy Fredianelli in 2010. In total, the four-member band has had a staggering nine line-up changes. Hargreaves, of course, declined to comment on these matters.

TEB continues to retain their radio-friendly sound, although with Red Star and Ursa Major they adopted a more studied and polished approach to their songwriting and production. However, Hargreaves reveals that this is something they’re going to change with their
upcoming album, due next year. “We’re getting back to the process that worked so well for us earlier — getting in a room together and working out the material, instead of writing it in the studio,” he says.
