Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain performs during a function at Shanmukhanand Hall in Mumbai.
The city’s Indian classical music lovers can witness an unconventional artiste line-up at a concert being held today. The event titled Music And Rhythm Masters will feature virtuoso vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan, who’ll be sharing the stage with tabla
maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain for the first time.

“It’s feels great to perform on a public platform with bhaisahab (Zakir) for the first time. He is one of the greatest percussionists. I have an association with him for about 33 years now,” shares Khan, who’ll be performing with Ustad Hussain in the first session of the concert. Talking about the performance, Khan says, “We haven’t planned it, but will go with the flow of the evening. I’m really looking forward for an interesting time on stage with bhaisahab.”

The second session will feature Ustad Hussain with sitar player Budhaditya Mukherjee, who is known to have popularised the Imdadkhani gharana. “Through this concert, we want to feature those legendary performers of Indian music who are responsible for taking their genre to the grassroot level, and for popularising it amongst lay Indian listeners,” says Shashi Vyas, director Pancham Nishad Creatives (the organisers of the concert).
