An annual festival of music and dance that aims at celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage, is all set to enthrall art lovers in the Capital. The Parampara Series, organised by noted Kuchipudi trio Raja, Radha and Kaushalya Reddy’s institute, Natya Tarangini, has much in store this time.

Since its inception in 1998, the fest has provided a platform for performers from India and abroad, to showcase their talent. Like every year, the motive of the three-day affair, which kicks off tomorrow, is to present productions with immaculate expertise.

“This year, the title of the festival is ‘Natya Nandanam’, which means the ‘blissful experience that music, dance and literature create’. The objective of the fest is to bring forth the best artists who have dedicated their lives re-invigorating our heritage and to create awareness among the masses,” says Kaushalya.

The opening day of the affair will see a Kuchipudi dance production by Raja and Radha Reddy, titled Sparsha — Touch, and a performance by Carnatic vocalists Ranjani and Gayatri.

“The act begins with the sutradhar (narrator) explaining what sparsha is. All living creatures in the universe, gods and goddesses, experience this feeling. If you see something, you immediately feel the sparsha of the object ... for instance, the sparsha of water, of air and of fire. The performance would play out the very experience,” says Raja Reddy.
The festival will also feature a Bharatanatyam solo by Malavika Sarukkai and a contemporary dance, ‘Rhythm Divine’ by Astad Deboo and dancers from the state of Manipur.
