Delhi weddings are synonymous with lots of naach-gaana and dhol beats. Though the trend of Punjabi beats continues this year, the surprise chartbuster at weddings is Breakup Party by Punjabi singer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.
“Honey Singh songs are the most popular at wedding
ceremonies, with Breakup party and High Heels being repeated at least 3-4 times. Breakup party’s Punjabi beats and light-hearted lyrics add to it’s appeal. Dope Shope and Angrezi beat follow next,” says Lovely Dua from DJ Taal. It seems that Delhi’s youth is quite pleased with the trend and takes it with a pinch of salt. “The breakup song is quite tongue-in-cheek and funny. I loved dancing to it with my girlfriend at our pre-wedding cocktail bash,” says Sahil Manchanda, 24, who got married recently.
Rib-tickling tunes
Fun and frolic seems to be on top of their agenda as youth laps up light hearted songs with catchy lyrics at wedding. “Off- beat songs with a regional flavour like Womaniya from Gangs of Wasseypur which has a typical UP touch, Motorola from Luv Shuv tey Chicken Khurana and Gangnam Style by South Korean musician PSY are wedding favourites,” says Shikha Verma from DJ Spin Twin. “People have got bored of the age-old boliyan and folk, they want something new. Songs like PSY’s Gangnam Style and its Punjabi version by D’Elusive — Golgappe diyan Reddiyaan…speaks the language of today’s youth. They have fresh lyrics and a groovy beat,” says Sonu Ahluwalia, Director, SRB Events and Entertainment.
Punjabi beats
The traditional Punjabi folk songs and boliyaan continue to be played at functions with a desi twist of live dhol. “The song — Bari Barsi Khatan Gaya Si still manages to get all the guests on the dance floor. Bollywood numbers like Radha likes to party played with live dhol gets the crowd on their feet,” says DJ Sumit Sethi.
