Akshay Kumar has never shied away from flaunting his Punjabi roots, and yet, the star has never featured in films in that language. Now, we have come to know that Akshay is all set to be mouth Punjabi dialogues in his upcoming, Ba Ji In Problem, produced by his and Ashvini Yardi’s company, Grazing Goat Productions.
“It’s not just a cameo; you can call it an extended appearance by Akshay. He has shot for five-six scenes in the film. Not many know that he finished all his work on the film a day before leaving for his family holiday to the US. Since he is well-versed in the language, Akshay enjoyed the entire experience a lot,” says an insider.
In the past, Akshay has done films like Namastey London (2007), Singh Is Kinng (2008), Patiala House (2011) and Khiladi 786 (2012) set against a strong Punjabi backdrop. He also appeared in a special Punjabi dance number, Shera Di Kaum in his production, Breakaway (released here as Speedy Singhs; 2011). In the song, he was seen performing with international rapper Bohemia.
“Akshay hasn’t acted in the film only because it’s his home production. He was impressed with his part and thought he fit the bill perfectly,” says the insider. Interestingly, the film will also see cricketer Harbhajan Singh — who is Akshay’s good friend — making his big-screen debut. The film also stars Punjabi actors Gippy Grewal, Gurpreet Ghuggi and veteran actor Om Puri, among others.
Akshay wrapped up work on his scenes and special song in just a day. “He started off shooting for the scenes at around 5 am at Chandivali Studio, and worked on the song (choreographed by Chinni Prakash) during the afternoon. The work was finally wrapped up by 9 pm. The next day, Akshay was supposed to leave for the US on a family holiday with his wife Twinkle and kids, Aarav and Nitara,” adds the insider. The actor, who is currently holidaying in the US, couldn’t be reached for a comment.
