Looks like Rajinikanth may just have some competition, finally. Till now, the actor's 2010 film Robot, made on a budget of R150 crore, has held the record of being India's most expensive film, but director SS Rajamouli, known for National Award winning films Magadheera and Eega, aims to break it with his next - a R160 crore period drama, titled Bahubali.
"Bahubali is a period film set in eighth century AD. It will showcase never seen before spectacular sets and special effects. Just the production budget of the movie is R125 crore, the highest for any Indian film till now. The final cost to producer would be over R160 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film ever made," says a source. The film stars Telugu actor Prabhas, Anushka Shetty and Rana Daggubati, who made his Bollywood debut in the 2011 film, Dum Maaro Dum. The film goes on the floors next month.
While Rajamouli remained unavailable for comment, the spokesperson of the film says, "Bahubali is going to be spectacular. Indian cinema has not seen the kind of special effects the film will have. It will be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi."
