As Sameera Reddy awaits the release of her upcoming action flick Tezz, the actor seems to have hit another career high. The actor is apparently being touted as the highest paid Kannada actor, as it is believed that she has pocketed more for her maiden Kannada film, Varadhanayaka, than she did for her last Kollywood hit, Vettai.
“I have heard this from the press itself,” laughs Sameera, who has apparently been paid around Rs.
50 lakh for the film, starring Sudeep. “It’s not something I was going to tom-tom about, but the fact is that Kannada films pay more than other south Indian industries. I don’t know how to react to this.”
The actor, for the time being, is excited about Priyadarshan’s Tezz. But ask her about the controversy surrounding Mallika Sherawat’s
item song in the film and she responds indirectly: “All I know is that more and more songs are being added in films just for the glamour effect. Look at all the blockbusters of last year, were all the item songs required? I don’t think so. But that’s what Bollywood is about. It’s very rare that they make sense with the story.”
Inspired by Vidya Balan’s
successful films — The Dirty Picture and Kahaani — Sameera, who has an action-packed part in Tezz, is now also looking forward to doing more female-oriented roles. “Thankfully, now directors also have more faith in making such movies. Now people know that audiences have accepted this cinema,” says Sameera.
Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani, Zayed Khan, Sameera Reddy and Mohanlal are also part of the ensemble cast.
