Rajinikanth's son-in-law Dhanush and Shruti Haasan are all set to alight the screen with their sizzling chemistry in Tamil movie 3. And with Kolaveri Di a huge success already the film's popularity has gone through the roof.
South star Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya’s directorial debut, 3, made headlines even before the film was complete. All thanks to the track ‘Why this Kolaveri di…’ that went viral a few months ago. But according to the film’s Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, the ‘soup song’ is just the
beginning.

“People may think songs are inane, but they are the reason our industry survives,” insists the artiste. He adds that the song in the film is featured differently from the online video, which has already received over 50 million views on YouTube.

Starring Aishwarya’s husband Dhanush and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles, 3 may even see Rajni do a cameo. Unlike most of his other films, Resul wasn’t given a brief for this one. After watching it though, he understood why: “It was emotionally taxing. I just saw my childhood in the first half, and went with that.”

Meanwhile, the sound engineer has also been involved with a TV show that goes behind the scenes of his last Bollywood project, RA.One. “Working on that was like walking a thin line between making sound for a film and a video game. Though personally, I feel the movie could have been cut down by 30 per cent, I’m glad it was made,” says Resul, commenting on the one-hour series called Revealed: The Making Of RA.One, which premieres on Discovery Channel this Friday. The concept of sound design came to the fore after his Academy Award win for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009. Ask him to define the job, and he says, “Like the cameraman gives a visual language to a film, sound design is the oral texture. Visual effects are never the same without equally good sound design.”
