A Good Old-Fashioned Orgy
Direction: Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck
Cast: Jason Sudekis, Tyler Labine
Rating: ***

The title is titillating alright. And A Good Old-Fashioned Orgy isn't afraid to go into a few outrageous places. While they cannot measure up to the un-PC heights of the Farrelly brothers (There's Something About Mary), director duo Gregory and Huyck approach their subject with welcome irreverence. Their naughty concoction delivers a number of hearty laughs. With an accent on double entendres and gross-out situations, the script focuses on a gaggle of libidinous friends. After initial hesitation, they agree to have a bawdy time at their annual soiree.

The avowedly offensive humour has a certain zest and honesty. The raunchy material, including a research visit to an underground swingers club, is handled within factious enthusiasm. It also helps that the cast is uniformly good with Tyler Labine the standout as the host's chubby buddy. On the downside, some of the women are treated as one-dimensional lust objects. Also, the filmmakers play it uncharacteristically safe during the climactic shenanigans. Nevertheless, this riotous romp is worth a ticket.
