While it seems like young couples are bucking traditional values, a new study finds that men and women prefer wedding proposals the old-fashioned way, with the men popping the question.
Researchers from the University of California, Santa Cruz, a liberal-leaning institution, asked about
300 undergrads, all heterosexual, about their thoughts on whether or not a woman should propose to a man.
Two-thirds said they definitely want the man to propose, and not a single man surveyed said his first choice would be for a woman to propose. None of the 277 surveyed "definitely" wanted the woman to propose.
Results of the study in the January 2013 issue of the Journal of Adolescent Research.
