Following Sarabjit Singh’s death in Pakistan, his sister Daljeet Kaur has now demanded that all Pakistani artists be banned in India. Shiv Sena, too, has echoed the same views saying that the artists should immediately be deported. Sarabjit, an Indian convict on death row, was beaten up in jail
following which he was hospitalised, and was declared dead on Thursday.
“Jo bhi yeh Veena Malik aur uske jaise vyaapaari, khiladi Pakistan se aayein hain, humein unhe vaapas bhejna hai,” said Daljeet, adding that if the government fails to act, they will take things in their own hands.
Part of Bollywood has come out in her support. “Ab Sarabjit mara hai toh uski behan ko yeh samajh aa raha hai. Main toh kab se yeh hi baat kehta raha hoon ki Pakistanis ko yahan ban karna chahiye. Hamari industry main koi mard hai hi nahi toh main akela awaaz utha ke kya karoon. Isliye main bhi chup ho gaya hoon ab. Nobody cares,” says singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya. “We should stop shaking hands with people who have been stabbing us in the back every time we trust them. I can never be in favour of Pakistani artists working in our country,” says singer Kunal Ganjawala.
Others, however, say her statement should not be jumped upon. “She has lost someone so close, she’s in a state of emotional turmoil. She’s my rakhi sister. This is just a reaction to what she is experiencing. This whole attack is suspected to be by forces which don’t want peace between Indo-Pak. It’s a very emotional time for her. Let’s just give her some time to gather herself together,” says filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt.

Meanwhile, the team of Go Goa Gone, that was to be in Delhi on Saturday, cancelled the visit on account of Sarabjit’s death. The film’s lead actors Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu and director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K were to address a press conference at a Delhi hotel this afternoon.
