A sessions court, on Friday, rejected the bail application of Suraj Pancholi who has been arrested for abetment of actress Jiah Khan’s suicide.
The court rejected Pancholi’s bail plea contending that the investigation into the case was at a crucial stage where the prosecution was inclined to invoke some more charges depending on the report of handwriting experts.
The prosecution said they were expecting the report at the earliest and on the basis of it would proceed to investigate further. They had also contended that the police had collected call data records of calls and messages exchanged between the two, which also go against Pancholi.
Pancholi was arrested on June 10 after being booked under IPC section 306 for allegedly abetting Khan’s suicide, a week after she ended her life at her Juhu home. The police arrested him on the basis of the six-page letter allegedly written by the actress accusing him of abuse and also alleging that she had to abort their child.
Pancholi had, in his bail plea, alleged that he has been falsely implicated. The application stated that a six-page letter could not have been written before Khan committed suicide. Advocate for Pancholi, CK Talekar, contested the claim on the note and argued, "It is highly suspicious that the letter was found by the sister of the deceased four days later while the police had initially said they did not find any suicide note".
On Friday, Jia’s mother Rabia Khan also filed an intervention application and contested the bail application filed by Suraj.
