Salman Khan and Subhash Ghai last worked together to make a dud called Yuvvraaj (2008). This was before the actor’s ongoing golden run, that would start with Wanted (2009) and then Dabangg (2010).
Subhash Ghai made Katrina Kaif learn music for her role in Yuvvraaj.
Ghai and Khan’s relationship apparently nosedived after the romantic film’s failure (at the time, there were even reports suggesting a fistfight between the two).
But in Bollywood today, it’s imprudent to have a bad equation with the actor-who-can-do-no-wrong. So Ghai, who turns 68 today, will be teaming up with Salman for a film next year.
Subhash Ghai says, “Salman ke saath meri commitment hai (I have a commitment with Salman). We’re going to start a film from January 2014, which I will be directing. This year, I’ll be caught up with Kaanchi and he is also busy, but next year, a film with Salman is surely on. I have the script and the star. So there shouldn’t be a problem.”
All seems to be well on the personal front as well. Ghai says, “Salman is like family to me. We meet at least once in two weeks. He has given me a lot of love and respect.”
The “action-packed masala entertainer,” as Ghai calls it, will be his first directorial project since Yuvvraaj.
The filmmaker says the high point of his birthday is having three new films to look forward to.
“This year is going to be special because I’m returning as a producer and director. With Kaanchi, the aim is to make a film that’s commercially and critically successful.
We have finalised an actress. We went through 240 auditions and screened more than 300 girls for it,” says Ghai, who will reveal the name today. Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty are also on board.
“My other two productions are Ishq De Maare and a film with the Deol family. I plan to make one film every year,” says Ghai, who feels a birthday is “just another day”.
