Saif and Kareena are expected to tie the knot in October this year.

Having just finished a gruelling outdoor shoot in Istanbul for Race 2, Saif Ali Khan is back in Mumbai, promoting his new film Cocktail and planning his wedding with Kareena Kapoor. Even though Cocktail releases this Friday, he doesn’t seem nervous. “The indications are positive. I’m more curious

than anxious,” says Saif, who spared time on a rainy Saturday afternoon to answer some questions for HT Café.

Tell us about your wedding (on October 16). Excited?
I haven’t fixed a date for my wedding! I’m yet to meet Kareena’s parents to sort out the date. It’s going to be a year-end wedding. As for excitement, we have been together [for a while], so what’s new? I’m 41, not an 18-year-old!

How are you planning the wedding?
Honestly, I don’t want to make a big deal of my shaadi. I want a very small affair. I feel we’ll quietly get married and announce it later. Otherwise it’ll get unmanageable in many ways. It will end up being no fun, and cause more offences. Who do you invite and who do you leave out? It’s crazy. The venue is also not finalised. Maybe we’ll have something in Mumbai and the rest will be follow in my hometown Pataudi.

We hear Kareena will be wearing your mother Sharmila Tagore’s wedding outfit.
That’s mom’s plan and she’s more excited about it. Being her only son, she has certain plans for me. But Kareena and I also have our own plans for the wedding.

How are your kids taking it?
Everyone is very happy.

How will you divide your time between your married life and your career?
Kareena and I have special moments together and special moments apart. It’ll be the same after marriage. The balance is perfect.

So it’s safe to say you’re in a good phase in your life.
In many ways, yes. I’m trying to make money, invest wisely and save for the future. I want to build up my Bandra flat and renovate the Pataudi house. Otherwise too, I’m happy. I deserve what I have today. Some of it is good, but I know I can do better. There are good movies and some great roles coming my way. I’m reuniting with Milan Luthria for another film after Kachche Dhaage (1999), and I play a UP mafia don in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s next. Then there’s Sajid Khan’s film. This phase is reminiscent of 2006, when I was doing movies like Parineeta and Omkara.
