As widespread outrage over the Delhi gang-rape incident continues, celebrities on Twitter have also made their opinions known. The latest to join the league is Chitrangda Singh (@iChitrangda), who recently joined the social networking site.
Having lived and studied in Delhi, she talks
about how unsafe the city is for women. She recalls her college days there, saying, “I’ve suffered my share of sexual harassment, which I think every girl in DU (Delhi University) has experienced. It’s horrible. You can’t get into a DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) bus. I can understand what she (the victim) has gone through.”
She believes that “there is a power struggle between men and women. It has something to do with a thousand years of conditioning,” she says.
Chitrangda finally created her official Twitter account because of the fake accounts in her name.
“In the past, there have been issues when fake accounts posted reactions using my name. When this (the rape incident) happened, I felt strongly about it, so I thought that I should join now,” she says.
Of course, besides the tweets about the Delhi incident, Chitrangda is also using the platform to promote her film, Inkaar, which deals with a power clash between her character and her mentor, played by Arjun Rampal.
She says the case of men dominating women is also apparent in the film industry. “It happens everywhere, and the film industry is no different. It’s about a power struggle, and has sexual overtones at times,” she says.

Movie trailers are usually meant to create a buzz and set expectations among audiences high. But the promo for Arjun Rampal and Chitrangda Singh’s next film, Inkaar, has ended up going through more than four additional cuts, thanks to the sizzling on-screen chemistry between the two.
Inkaar, which is about sexual harassment at the workplace, will see Arjun and Chitrangda battle it out in a war of the sexes. A source close to the film says, “Played as a courtroom drama, the content of Inkaar is bold and controversial. The theatrical trailer of the film has gone through four revisions as the team feels that the content is too steamy.
