Designer Sanjana Jon, sister of jailed US-based Indian fashion designer Anand Jon, claims her family now has “concrete evidence” to prove that her once celebrated brother is a victim of “racial discrimination” in the US.
“This has been a long battle for truth and justice. We’ve been fighting for six years now, I just want him back home,” Sanjana told us in tears, as she met the media in Delhi, on Monday. The Kerala-born designer is currently serving a 59-year prison term in California on charges of sexual abuse. He was arrested in 2007 in California on charges that he sexually assaulted seven aspiring models, some of them teenagers.
On February 14 this year, Jon admitted to one count of criminal sexual act in the Manhattan Supreme Court and in turn, the prosecutors dropped 48 out of 49 charges against him. Sanjana is now hoping this would help them fight the earlier charges in a California court. “Anand is a victim of this (racial) conspiracy. I would urge the Indian government to help us bring him back,” she says.
