Actor Shayan Munshi, who was an eyewitness to the 1999 murder of model Jessica Lall, has refused to watch the movie, No One Killed Jessica. “I have not even thought about watching the film and have no intention of thinking about it either,” says Munshi, who is currently out of the country.
Munshi, who was a key witness to the infamous shootout, had come under much flak for backtracking from his earlier statement in the court, citing poor knowledge of Hindi.
Insiders from the social circuit feel that the reason behind Munshi’s apparent apathy could be his portrayal as the ‘bad boy’ in the film. “It is obvious. He is too ashamed to face the music,” says a prominent socialite, wishing not to be named.
Other witnesses of the murder, however, did not seem to have reservations about watching the movie. Bina Ramani, at whose restaurant the incident occurred, spoke to us on Friday, when she was on her way to see the film in Goa. “I hope they’ve portrayed everything the way it happened. It should show just how big of a fight for justice these years have been,” she said . After watching it, however, she didn’t seem too happy with the way her character has been portrayed. “The movie did not stick to true facts, I will therefore not dignify it with my further comments,” she later said. Bina’s daughter and designer Malini Ramani, however said that she too intends to see the film, “I will surely watch it,” she says.
Another celebrity who was present at the scene, Designer Rohit Bal, says, “I clearly remember that night. I had taken her (Jessica) to the hospital. I’m travelling right now, will surely see the film when I’m in Delhi. Jessica was a great friend and this is her story.” Designer Rohit Gandhi, a friend of Jessica’s, says, “All my friends say it’s an excellent film and tells her story as it is. I will surely go watch it.”
