The success of the 2010 film, Band Baaja Baaraat, saw the Bollywood careers of two debutants take off. Ranveer Singh emerged as a promising acting talent, while director Maneesh Sharma got the green signal for another film right away – Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (LVRB; 2011), again starring Ranveer Singh.
But LVRB could not quite repeat the success of their first film. And it seems, ever since, the actor and director have not been on the friendliest of terms. Sources from the industry say that the cold war between Maneesh and YRF’s blue-eyed boy, Ranveer, is well-established.Ranveer and Maneesh aren’t on good terms anymore.
Ranveer feels Maneesh didn’t do justice to LVRB, a source says, adding that now Ranveer even refuses to credit Maneesh for the success of Band Baaja Baaraat.Ranveer feels that it was Habib Faisal’s story more than Maneesh’s direction that made the film a huge success, the source says. Now, according to the source, Ranveer is in no hurry to work with the director anytime soon.
However, on being contacted, Ranveer denied having any bad blood with the director.Maneesh and I started our careers together and tasted success with our very first collaboration. I share a special bond with him. There is no question of a fall out, the actor says. Maneesh too says,The rumour is baseless. There is no reason for a fall out.
However, Ranveer isn’t the only actor Maneesh seems to have problems with. There have been rumours of his soured relations with Shahid Kapoor as well. The details or the reason are unclear, but Shahid reportedly walked out of the director’s yet-untitled project, which is being produced by YRF. Sushant Singh Rajput was then brought in as replacement.
Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh seems to be making friends with other directors. He and Shaad Ali (another YRF director) have become close. It only became more evident at Shaad’s recent wedding. There might be a project the two may do together at some point, the source says.
