“I’d heard that I have a lot of fans in India but seeing it for myself was amazing! There’s so much energy and warmth here. I really, really want to play live in India someday,” said the 25-year-old US-based Russian, who was here as brand ambassador of a UK-based real estate firm.

In the country just for a day, Sharapova shelved her Taj Mahal plans for the next visit, but said she did not want to miss out on a desi shopping spree.

“I’m really looking forward to visit the local markets to buy some souvenirs for my friends, and may be some ethnic Indian wear for myself,” said the player, who won the French Open this year, followed by a silver at the Olympics.
