Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is honoured to be appointed as the international goodwill ambassador for the United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and says
motherhood will help her be her best at the new job.

“I am honoured to accept this appointment. Spreading awareness on health issues especially related to women and children has always been of concern. And now, as a new mother, I can personally relate to this — the joys and concerns of every mother, and the hopes that we have for our children. I pray and strongly believe that no baby should be born with HIV. And I wish that every woman living with HIV stays healthy and has access to treatment. I promise that with UNAIDS, I will do my utmost to make this happen,” says Ash, who was conferred with the honour at the UN headquarters during the 67th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.

With this, the 38-year-old has joined the ranks of international names such as Naomi Watts and Princesses Mette-Marit of Norway and Stephanie of Monaco.
