In allegations that have left Bollywood aghast, filmmaker Shirish Kunder has said that actor Shah Rukh Khan physically assaulted him at the success party of Agneepath in Mumbai on Sunday.
Shirish is the spouse of filmmaker Farah Khan, who was once Shah Rukh’s best friend but had a fallout
with him after she cast Akshay Kumar instead of him in her movie, Tees Maar Khan (2010).
“Shah Rukh pushed me without any provocation, and he started threatening me for no reason. He pulled my hair ... he was completely drunk and kept repeating, ‘I will destroy you’. I was too shocked to react. Finally, Sanjay Dutt and Baba Dewan (the party’s host) intervened and I left from there,” Kunder said.
Insiders say it may have been one of Shirish’s anti-Ra.One tweets that ticked off Khan. On the day of the release of the film, Kunder had tweeted, “I just heard a Rs. 150 Cr firework fizzle.” Later, he also wrote, “The superhero in Ra.One has all the powers in the world but to entertain!”
Sanjay Dutt’s spokesperson says, “Shirish was irritating Shah Rukh by hanging around him and trying to seek attention. Shah Rukh grabbed him and slapped him. Sanju intervened, Shirish left immediately but Shah Rukh stayed on.”
Khan, however, denies the assault. He told a TV channel on Monday that “there was a disagreement with Shirish, but certainly no assault.” Meanwhile, Farah Khan lashed out at SRK, saying, “Shah Rukh has always told me that physical abuse is the worst way to sort out a problem and it means that the person who is hitting has either a professional or personal crisis going on. It saddens me to see him doing this.” Asked if they’ll file a complaint against Shah Rukh, Kunder said, “No.”
