Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt’s
fundraiser event, in which he was to perform with 50 inmates of Yerawada Central Jail (YCJ) in Pune today, was postponed for security reasons.
Dutt is serving a 42-month sentence at the YCJ for his role in Mumbai serial blasts. Along with the inmates of the jail, he was slated to perform in a stage drama, Teemiratun Tejakade (From Darkness to Light) at a welfare show organised by the state Prisons Department at the Balgandharva Auditorium in Pune.
“Due to security issues, which I can not exactly disclose at this point, we have decided to conduct the program after few days,” said Meeran Chaddha Borawankar, additional director general (prison department).
According to Borawankar, the department will return money collected through donation passes distributed to the audience. The event was a part of prison department’s yearly activity intended to raise money for jail staff and their family members.
Reports had suggested that Dutt and his team were to perform the hit 'Lungi dance' from the recent Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone
blockbuster, Chennai Express.
