Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has sparked immense speculation about his career by apparently telling selectors that “since he is not getting runs, he would like to leave it to the selectors to take a call (on his retirement).” We talk to a few young guns from Bollywood to get their opinions about the veteran cricketer.

Ayushmann Khurrana, actor
As a nation, we shouldn’t patronise Sachin. He is one player who has fans in all age groups — children, adults, older people and women. And I honestly feel that skeptics and critics are being too harsh on him. Tendulkar is just going through a bad patch. After all, he is also a human being. So,I am sure the pressure can get to him also.

Sidharth Malhotra, actor
I feel that selectors should try out the team without Sachin, because eventually we will have to play minus him in a few years. I know it sounds harsh but that’s what the future holds. We should gradually start trying other people right now because if they don’t perform, we can always bring back Sachin since he is still very active.

Alia Bhatt, actor
Retirement is a very subjective thing for any player. He has to decide himself on the course of his life and career. A player like him doesn’t need to be told what to do. There should be no compulsion or imposing on the icon that we all know. He has been an inspiration for all age groups for many years now and will continue to be.

Yami Gautam, actor
Although I don’t follow cricket very regularly, I know one thing for sure: there is a huge sentimental value attached to whatever Sachin does on or off the field. According to me, whether a person is young or old or Sachin’s fan or not, everyone loves him and owes a lot to him for bringing laurels to India. So this is a very tough question to answer.
