Back in the ’90s, he was just one among the hundreds of students at Mithibai College. Now more than a decade later, when Shahid Kapoor visited the institute on Wednesday (September 4) he was greeted with screaming fans — surely a sign of how famous he has become since his student days.
When we approached Shahid to visit his college a day before Teacher’s Day, he was not only ready but also refused to get his bodyguards, saying he couldn’t visit his own alma mater with security in tow. But the moment he entered the premises, word of his visit spread like wildfire and within minutes, hundreds of students were following Shahid throughout the institute. The actor didn’t get flustered even once and happily shook hands, posed for pictures and signed autographs with a smile.
Shahid, who had a chat with the principal in-charge DB Gadkari, even spoke about how much the institute has changed since he graduated. When he was offered pastries by the staff, he took a small piece mock-complaining that his trainer doesn’t allow him to indulge his sweet tooth.
Later, he entered the staff room where he spoke about studying sociology, philosophy and psychology as a student. His next stop was a classroom, which was in session but the professor was more than happy to welcome him (Shahid did apologise profusely for the intrusion) and turn into a student for a few minutes.
Shahid’s last stop was the popular college canteen, which erupted with excitement. Catcalls such as, ‘ Shahid, we love you’ and ‘Can you do a dance step please?’ were heard.
